iPhone Troubleshooting
Features
When you are engaged as a driver, after you enter a carpool station's purple Call Zone the app will announce the trip proposal for that station using your iPhone's speakers (or your car's speakers) as heard in the Driver Video
It's important to hear these announcements – they enable you to keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel while you decide to accept or decline the trip
Also, the app keeps your iPhone awake while you're driving. This enables you to accept or decline a trip with a single tap after hearing the announcement
If your iPhone doesn't stay awake while driving, go to Auto-Lock
Location Permission
Rapid Carpool requires access to your location in order to confirm your presence at your selected carpool station. You can not drive or ride in a carpool without granting access to your location.
(Rapid Carpool accesses your location only while the app is open – not in the background. Your data is never shared with anyone.)
Open iPhone Settings
From iPhone home screen, tap Settings
Tap Privacy
Scroll down to view Privacy
Tap Location Services
Turn on Location Services
If these Location Services settings are disabled, check your Screen Time settings:
Settings >
Screen Time >
Content & Privacy Restrictions > Location Services >
set to Allow Changes
Tap Safari Websites
Scroll down to view Safari Websites
Tap While Using the App
Make sure that While Using the App is selected
Make sure that Precise Location is On
Open Safari browser
(Other browsers will not work on iPhone)
Type the URL rapidcarpool.com and then tap "go"
After rapidcarpool.com has loaded:
Tap AA
Tap Website Settings
Set all three to Allow
Camera – for your profile photo
Microphone – to call driver/rider if needed
Location – to confirm presence at station
Audio Test
Test Audio
If you did not hear the chime, tap
Test Audio
to play app audio test
If you can hear the audio test, but you can't hear the station announcements when driving:
go to Driving Audio
If you can NOT hear the audio test please try these steps:
Can you play another audio source on your iPhone, such as music or a podcast?
Is your iPhone connected to your car by either a cable or by wireless Bluetooth?
Are your car's speakers turned on?
iPhone Volume
Make sure your iPhone's volume is turned up
Silent Switch
If your iPhone has a Silent switch, make sure it is forward toward the device's display with no orange showing
Driving Audio
If you can hear the Audio Test but you can't hear the station announcements while driving:
During your drive, if you leave the Rapid Carpool app, and then return to the app, the ability to play station announcements on your iPhone may have been disabled
To re-enable station announcements, tap
Test Audio
This button resets the station announcements
Tap KEEP DRIVING
When you hear a No Match announcement
Tap KEEP DRIVING before the timer expires
This button resets the station announcements (similar to the Test Audio button)
Check Do Not Disturb
Open iPhone Settings
Go to Focus > Do Not Disturb
Make sure Do Not Disturb is Off
Rapid Carpool's station announcements may interfere with your music or podcast
If that occurs, you can disable announcements at carpool stations that have No Match – you will only hear announcements for carpool Trip Proposals
To disable No Match announcements:
Open Profile
Tap your user photo to go to your profile
Tap Driver Settings
Scroll to the bottom of your profile to access Driver Settings
Disable Sound
Tap the checkbox Sound Effect for Matched Trip Only
When this box is checked, Rapid Carpool will not announce stations with no matching riders
Tap Close
Return to Driver App
To go back to the Driver App
Tap the flashing green user status at the top of the screen
Auto-Lock
If your iPhone doesn't stay awake while driving (and the phone is plugged in to a power source):
This may be due to a known iOS 16.4+ bug that has temporarily broken the ability of apps like Rapid Carpool to keep the screen awake. Apple has reported they will fix this iOS bug imminently.
For now, Rapid Carpool drivers have two options to keep their iPhone awake while driving:
Option 1:
Log in via Safari browser
Instead of using the Rapid Carpool app
Open the Safari browser
The browser version of Rapid Carpool works the same as the app
Save RapidCarpool.com to your Safari bookmarks
Option 2:
Manually set iPhone Auto Lock
Open iPhone Settings
Go to Display & Brightness
Set Auto-Lock to Never
When your drive is complete, don't forget to reset Auto-Lock to your preferred duration
Beyond these two options, additional information regarding Auto-Lock is presented below.
During your drive, if you leave the Rapid Carpool app, and then return to the app, the ability to keep your iPhone awake may have been disabled
To re-enable this feature, tap
Test Audio
This button resets the app's screen lock
When you are driving, your iPhone (or your car's connected speakers) may show an empty playing video titled "NoSleep" – this is the screen lock feature
NoSleep may interfere with your music or podcast. If that occurs, you can disable screen lock and manually set your iPhone to stay awake by following these steps:
Open Profile
Tap your user photo to go to your profile
Tap Driver Settings
Scroll to the bottom of your profile to access Driver Settings
Disable Stay Awake
Tap the checkbox Disable Stay Awake
When this box is checked, Rapid Carpool will not keep your iPhone awake
Tap Close
Return to Driver App
To go back to the Driver App
Tap the flashing green user status at the top of the screen
